Project Overview

SHINE (Sustainable Strategies in Higher Education Internationalisation Towards Excellence in Namibia) is a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme that aims to strengthen and harmonise the internationalisation efforts of Namibian Universities to improve educational quality, employability, research prospects and international collaboration.

In alignment with the national priorities set in Namibian Vision 2030, and with EU priorities (including the Global Gateway Africa-Europe and the Youth Mobility for Africa flagship), the consortium will commit to the transformation of the Namibian Higher Education system.

Key Objectives

This will be achieved through two specific objectives:

  • 1 Enhancing the institutional capacities of Namibian HEIs to successfully plan, implement and evaluate internationalisation activities, including the consolidation of international relations structures and the establishment of comprehensive internationalisation strategies.
  • 2 Fostering the development of a globalised and inclusive learning environment by training and involving staff, faculty members and students of the different campuses into the establishment of a national roadmap for internationalisation in Namibia.

To tackle these objectives, the project brings together a consortium successfully representing different relevant actors for HE internationalisation in Namibia: 4 Namibian HEIs with different experience & expertise in the matter, the National Student Association with a proven track of student advocacy and an extended network, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation; and two EU partners with extensive experience in the topic to guide the process.

Moreover, SHINE connects to decolonised internationalisation which will be ensured by respecting and encouraging indigenous knowledge frameworks and by the project activities occurring mostly in Namibia, with a strong focus on the satellite campuses to ensure access of all students and staff to internationalisation opportunities.
