WELWITCHIA UNIVERSITY PARTICIPATES IN INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON POINT-OF-CARE DIAGNOSTICS

On 28 September 2026, Welwitchia University proudly took part in the Point‑of‑Care Diagnostics: The Present and Future Possibilities Seminar, hosted at the Namibia Scientific Society in Windhoek. The one‑day seminar was jointly organized by the Finnish Southern Africa Cooperation Institute (FSAI), the FinNam Research Academy, and the University of Namibia (UNAM). It brought together leading researchers and practitioners from Finland, Namibia, and India to explore the latest advances and future directions in point‑of‑care (POC) diagnostic technologies. Welwitchia University was represented by a delegation of lecturers and students from the student representative council who are currently studying within the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The programme featured insightful presentations on POC diagnostics in infectious diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis, next‑generation sequencing applications, maternal and child health, and multianalyte panel testing. The seminar concluded with a panel discussion on improving diagnosis of infectious diseases in primary healthcare settings. Participation in this international scientific engagement provided Welwitchia University’s delegation with valuable exposure to cutting‑edge diagnostic research and strengthened opportunities for collaboration with global partners.

Welwitchia University extends its appreciation to FSAI, FinNam Research Academy, and UNAM for the invitation and looks forward to continued partnerships that advance healthcare innovation in Namibia and beyond.
