WELWITCHIA UNIVERSITY AND NARETU SIGN MOU TO STRENGTHEN PRACTICAL LEGAL TRAINING.

27 August 2026 - Welwitchia University has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Namibian Revolutionary Transport and Manufacturing Union (NARETU), establishing a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening practical legal education and exposing law students to real-world labour and legal practice.

The signing marks an important milestone for Welwitchia University as the institution continues to bridge academic excellence with practical professional experience.

Under the agreement, NARETU will provide Welwitchia University law students with structured opportunities to gain practical exposure to labour dispute resolution and related workplace realities. This will complement the students’ academic training and provide valuable insight into the practical application of legal principles.

For Welwitchia University, the partnership supports its commitment to producing well-rounded, market-ready legal professionals. Practical exposure will complement the School of Law curriculum by allowing qualified students to take their learning beyond the classroom and engage with real-world legal and labour-related matters.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Vice Chancellor Professor Marius Hedimbi described the occasion as a historic milestone for the University, highlighting the importance of connecting academic excellence with real-world legal practice.

“This MOU allows us to place our qualified law students directly into the field.”

Professor Hedimbi further acknowledged the Faculty of Law, Commerce and Education for its leadership in fostering the collaborative relationship with NARETU and emphasised the role of practical training in shaping the next generation of legal minds, advocates and defenders of justice in Namibia.

The Vice Chancellor also encouraged students to embrace the opportunity with diligence, curiosity and integrity, transforming the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom into meaningful practical experience.
