A SECOND CHANCE AT EDUCATION: RUTH PINEHAS’ STORY OF RESILIENCE AND RENEWED HOPE
Sometimes, all a young person needs is one opportunity and someone willing to extend a helping hand.
Ruth Pinehas, a young woman from the Moses Garoeb Constituency, is pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery Science Honours at Welwitchia University. Her educational journey was interrupted by financial difficulties, leaving her unable to meet her tuition obligations.
Despite these challenges, Ruth refused to give up. She sold fat cakes and worked as a babysitter to support herself, while holding onto her dream of completing her studies and becoming a registered nurse.
Her determination caught the attention of SOS Children’s Villages Namibia, which approached the Office of the Student Counsellor, led by Mrs. Clarice Liswani, to assist in identifying a vulnerable student in need of support. Ruth was identified and referred as a beneficiary.
Through this meaningful partnership, Mrs. Tjarirove Hangara, Livelihood and Youth Development Officer at SOS Children’s Villages Namibia, extended financial assistance of N$6,600.00 towards Ruth’s tuition fees.
This support is more than financial assistance it is a renewed opportunity for Ruth to return to school, rebuild her confidence, and continue working towards a better future.
The intervention highlights the power of collaboration between educational institutions and community-based organisations in removing financial barriers to education.
One student. One opportunity. One renewed hope.
Together, we can make a difference, one young person at a time.
