WELWITCHIA NURSES BRING CARE TO THE COMMUNITY ON INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY

Welwitchia University marked International Nurses Day on 12 May 2026 with a dynamic community health outreach that showcased the spirit of service, collaboration, and practice-ready learning. In partnership with the Welwitchia University Student Representative Council (WU SRC), student nurses delivered free health care and wellness services to members of the public at Wernhil Park, Windhoek, bringing professional nursing support directly into everyday community spaces.

The initiative was designed to celebrate the vital role of nurses in Namibian society while giving student nurses hands-on experience in community-based health care delivery. Under the supervision of academic staff, students conducted basic health screenings, offered wellness advice, and engaged with mall goers on preventive care, hygiene, and healthy lifestyle choices. The outreach not only raised awareness of common health concerns but also strengthened trust between future health professionals and the communities they will serve. In addition, the initiative also shared some programme information on the July intake that is currently open to prospective students.

By hosting these services in high-footfall locations such as Wernhil Park, Welwitchia University reinforced its commitment to accessible, community-centred health education and social responsibility. The event also highlighted the university’s growing profile as a leading institution for nursing and health sciences, where experiential learning and public service are embedded in the curriculum.
Through this International Nurses Day outreach, Welwitchia University reaffirmed its mission to produce competent, compassionate, and practice-ready graduates who are prepared to contribute meaningfully to Namibia’s health and social development goals.
